Synchronizations and Rollbacks in Optimistic Distributed Simulation Scheme

چکیده
This paper describes a study of coordination issues in optimistic distributed simulations that are implemented over a loosely coupled environment. Detailed study of relations among the factors such as the number, the depth and the frequency of rollbacks, the event intensity, and the speedup of the distributed simulations are studied. This study shows that centralized coordination can perform very eeectively in certain types of simulation tasks; the rollbacks have diierent characteristics at diierent event intensities; and how the overall performance of optimistic distributed simulations is aaected by message intensity, communications overhead, and rollback frequency.

Completely Asynchronous Optimistic Recovery with Minimal Rollbacks
Consider the problem of transparently recovering an asynchronous distributed computation when one or more processes fail. Basing rollback recovery on optimistic message loggingand replay is desirable for several reasons, including not requiring synchronization between processes during failure-free operation. However, previous optimistic rollback recovery protocols either have required synchroni...

Computer simulation of large and complex systems in various elds of science and engineering requires tremendous computational resources, and is limited by sequential simulation algorithms in most practical cases. Parallel simulation ooers the potential to accelerate simulations so as to facilitate the study of complex dynamic systems with large problem sizes, to explore large parameter spaces, ...
متن کاملPerformance improvement of geographically distributed cosimulation by hierarchically grouped messages
To improve the performance of geographically distributed cosimulation, we propose a concept called hierarchically grouped message. The concept improves cosimulation performance, preserving the cosimulation accuracy, by hierarchically grouping messages transferred between simulators in a short period of simulated time into a single physical message, thereby reducing the number of physical messag...
متن کاملA Hybrid Time Management Approach to Agent-Based Simulation
In this paper we describe a time management approach to distributed agent-based simulation. We propose a new time management policy by joining optimistic synchronization techniques and domain-specific knowledge based on agent communication protocols. With respect to our experimental results, we assume that our approach helps to prevent too optimistic event execution. Consequently, the probabili...

In this paper, we present a simulation testbed for wireless and mobile telecommunication systems, a two-stage PCS parallel simulation testbed which makes use of a conservative scheme at Stage 1, and of time warp at Stage 2. While Time warp is considered to be an effective synchronization mechanism in parallel and distributed discrete event simulation (PDES) it is also well known for its unstabi...
